(PMOD) SM56 Improved, but still questionable

Working with my Motorola SM56 user I wrote about last week. We can now
connect successfully without the need for a v.34 force. However, he
still only connects at 28.8. One question I have is this: When he
connected, he was disconnected within about two minutes; but the
statistics did not show any retrains or renegotiations. Does that mean
his modem is experiencing difficulties independent of the Portmaster?
