We have been having a hard time with any modem with that chipset on it. I
had that chipset show up on a Phoebe modem, up until that time the Phoebe
modems I have delt with had Rockwell chips on them and connect great.
The only way I have been able to get those crappy CL-MD56xx Cirrus Logic
modems to connect is by disabling 56k altogether with +MS=V34 (i think thats
what does it).
I also found that sometimes the modem will not initialize with that string
unless the computer is rebooted.
