This is a Cirrus Logic modem. There was a fix for this modem in ComOS
3.8.2c2, but I think that the fix may have only worked for CL modems
running 6.04 firmware, since there have been several people complaining
recently about problems with earlier version (6.00, 6.02). This modem
is running 6.00 firmware. Look for a newer firmware for it. I know
that Jaton has a 6.04 firmware available (for the Communicator V.90),
but I don't know if you want to risk flashing the thing with another
manufacturer's code. If worse comes to worse, lock the modem to V.34
with the following init string:

+MS=V34B
