Philip,

MNP/NONE is OK, MNP is the error correction. There is just no compression on
the link. DIRECT/NONE is another story. We just do what the client modem
asks us to. To force LAPM on these clients try:

3com &m5 ARQ mode
Lucent \n5 LAPM or disconnect
Rockwell \n5 LAPM or disconnect

These settings may vary from modem to modem. So remember to check the
manuals.
