(PMOD) ESS Modem

I have a customer who is getting solid 50666 connects, even with two
commas, with an ESS Modem. The control panel shows es56-i as the
modem. ATI3 shows V4.43-i. The problem is that he is getting about
8-900 bytes/sec. download speeds. I've searched all over the 56k sites
and can't seem to locate any init strings. I found some drivers at
windrivers.com, but they seem to be about a year old. Can anyone help
or point me in the right direction to get better throughput?
