I have PM3's, PM4's and USR Total Controls. There is no doubt that the
modem code on the USR's work 10 times better than the PM4's! Granted that
the USR market share in SA is about 75% but I have never had modem
connection problems with the USR Rack EVER! The PM4 (although a lot better
since the last code upgrade) doesn't come close!
I was hoping to shut the USR down and move it to a smaller POP and only use
the PM4 because we have plenty of ports but if I did that I would loose a
whole stack of customers overnight. I am now keeping two offices open (as
the one just houses the USR Rack) until Lucent finally get some modem code
as good as the Total Control.

I'm no expert on the Ascend or Cisco but my guess is they are no where
close to the Total control either.
