We usually include a sheet on how to install them - and it's pretty
important that you do it in the right order - remove the existing modem in
windows, open the machine and remove the old modem, turn it back on and
install the lucent drivers, turn it back off and install the new modem, turn
it back on and your done. While you are correct that it usually does
generate a support call to get them installed that is usually the last time
we have to talk to that customer about modem problems -- and they think we
are great for giving them a modem :-)

I have not really noticed much difference in the models - all of the ones
that I have found with the Lucent chip set in them seem to work equally
well. I tend to prefer the ISA modems but I have no real basis for that
other than I have seen people on this list complaining about the PCI ones.
The PCI one I tried worked fine. I see that pricewatch.com has some as low
as $10 now...
