Re: (PMOD) Generic PCTel modems

I just downloaded the PCTel generic from this site (thanks, Sherwood). It
looks like it's version 7.55s8. My customer is using 7.6005ms, which I
would assume is newer. However, newer isn't always better, so I may give
it a try anyway. Heck things can't get much worse than 4800 bps (unless
they can't connect at all). Anyway, I think I'll try the Zoltrix stuff
too, just for the heck of it. I guess that's the great thing about
winmodems--if you upgrade it with the wrong stuff, you can always go back
if it doesn't work. :)

I also have a suspicion that this person is using this modem in a 486,
which would also explain a lot of things. From what I've been able to
gather, the PCTels have to have a Pentium or better. In fact, I guess
they even have different drivers depending on your processor--Pentium,
Cyrix, etc. Weird. I'll be talking with them tomorrow, so I'll post what
happens.
