Looks like the customer is able to connect at 28.8k which would at least
indicate that they haven't been pairgained.
They are using MNP compression, but where V42BIS should be seen, NONE is
shown instead indicating error correction is not available.. They were on
for almost an hour before they were disconnected. Probably from sporadic
line noise. I would check modem advanced properties to make sure error
correction has not been disabled.
I've seen that same error with a customer who was calling in from a rural
area without error correction.
If they open their terminal window after dialing but don't log on, they may
see random characters being generated from the line noise as they're
waiting.
