(PMOD) 'Bad' Modems on PM3

For a long time we have checked our PM3's for call
success rates, as it seems that some 'modems' on the
digital cards can go 'bad'. Normally about 95% of calls
result in a carrier established.

When going bad, this can drop to low 80's or lower.

I am not convinced that this is a hard fault or just some
software bug in the code, that should be fixed after
a reboot (or perhaps does it need a power off).

Till recently we have returned cards with modems with
bad figures (need about 200 calls to rely on the %).

I've heard that Rockwell based servers (eg Ascend) had
this prob, and would automatically reload DSP firmware on
the Box if a certain no of calls failed. We have noticed
similar 'bad modem' behaviour on our Bay 5399, but reboots
fixes them.

Does anyone have any experience or comment on the nature
of such problems on PM3's ?
