That's how we do it here (until I get the Ascend diffs installed).
There are four options to the Merit server that are relevant:

-p == select the server request (input) UDP socket number

-q == select the server accounting (input) UDP socket number

-pp == select the server relay (output) UDP socket number

-qq == select the server accounting reply (output) UDP socket number

With this flexibility I should think you could pretty much do whatever
you wanted (given that the Ascend NAS can specify non-1645 UDP ports).
