And <CENTER> isn't part of the HTML standard - and *no one* uses that

It is documented and it is in high demand, whether anyone likes it or
not it is a de facto standard. I believe Shiva, Ascend, Cisco, Linux,
and Livingston all support it now or will be soon. My bet is Xylogics,
Xyplex, etc, won't be far behind - it is a trivial feature (see the RFC)
and there will be nothing but growing demand since it is part of the Win95
dialer.
And I have to admit it is a damn useful feature.
By this time next year a PPP client that doesn't support it will probably
be considered obsolete.
And I'm probably being generous with the timeline.
Of course, unless something superior comes out before it gets firmly
entrenched.
