We have moved the machine that autenticates logons and to a t1 40 miles
from our dialups the dns is also located at the same location running
on spacs that seem to run so slow at times there must be honey in the
chips :) ...the portmaster (a 2e-30) is connected to the t1 via isdn

we are having problems in the fact that it appears that the authenication
is sometimes too slow and times out or doesnt resolove the account

result being something like this:
S3 bearalrt 206.165.145.43 Netwrk In ESTABLISHED 30 0

or this:

S3 bearalrt - - - - - - - Netwrk In ESTABLISHED 15 0

the latter type of connection results in the cutomer ...having bandwidth but
being unable to get anywhere ...having connection refused ...apparently
because they show up as "nothing" to the outside world

questions:
1) are we correct in assuming this is an authentification problem
2) is there a way to change the "timing out"
3) how do we address/correct this
