Thanks Todd for your quick reply, the /etc/ld.so.conf contains
the following:

/usr/i486-linuxaout/lib
/usr/X11R6/lib
/usr/i486-linux-libc5/lib

and the output of the ldconfig -v showd that libdb.so.1 is located
under /usr/i486-linuxaout/lib I placed a link to
/usr/i486-linux-libc5/lib but still not working.
