Sounds like you're running out of either pseudo-ttys (/dev/ttyp*) or TCP
connections (default for SCO is 256 -- which isn't hard to exceed,
depending on what other network software you're using).
Try reconfiguring your kernel for more tcp connections and/or more pttys...
