The problem is resolved. The problem is that Supras have as their default
DTE speed whatever speed they were at when you last AT&W them (which was
28800 -- before I checked for performance impact as suggested on this
list).

When I changed the PM serial speed to 57600, I didn't re- AT&W the modems.

Now that I have, everything's okey-dokey.
