I have a small problem with PPP and SLIP hanging on PC's. Before I posted this
mail, I tested the problem our customers have mentioned on my own windows box to
confirm it was just not another user problem.
With SLIP (or PPP) and you are downloading large files, the connection hangs and
does not come back. You have to restart your winsock and start again, only to
have it hang again. I know what you'r going to say, Lower the MTU setting,
Been there, done that.
Most of our customers are using Trumpet, some SLIP and some PPP. (Testing to
see which is better for the customer and support.) We have tried from 256 to
1500 on our MTU setting. All the same, Download hangs.
As anyone else had this problem and found it NOT to be MTU related? It seams
that if you just travel the net, you can stay up for a reasonable amount of
time. If you do anything with large files....Problems.
