The ISDN BRI (Basic rate interface) works on basic copper lines and
it is available in most areas in Canada. The connection costs around
$ 70.00 + GST (around $ 90.00). You get two phone numbers and local
calls are free. The only condition is that you home or business be
not further than a certain distance from the CO (around 5 miles),
otherwise the telco has to install a repeater. The ISDN connection
can carry data at up to 900 Kb/s if you use the gandalf 5242i
ISDN Bridge/Router with Integrated NT1 and analog port. the analog
port is important since you can use one the B channels for data
and the second for Voice, fax, etc.

Yes. The main manufacturers are gandalf, Ascend, and Motorola.
The BitSURFR from Motorola is the cheapest but I think paying
$ 300.00 more for Bridge/Router is worth it since you can
hook more than one machine at a time and you get better compression.
