I'll second this, but from a performance perspective. When we hit 512K,
and had a fair bit of traffic on the serial ports as well as doing
routing, we had DMA overruns in the PM. Putting in a Cisco 2501 made
a significant difference in our observed backbone utilization, so we
are left to assume that the PM was indeed the bottleneck.
