Crappy users (fwd)

Once upon a time Jacob Suter shaped the electrons to say...
>I have a user that is sending unsolicited Email from our system. Which I
>think is pretty shitty. I know I can't stop him (other than jerking his
>Email account), but I have talked to him about "I don't give a damn who
>you send it to, I just don't want the whining about it to me". He
>agreed.

Ditch him - NOW.

It is NOT worth ruin your reputation - because mail will STILL have you in
the path. And I've been involved in this kind of thing as a moderator and
list maintainer. First I would address the site it is coming from, then I
work up the path. So you'd get it next, then YOUR provider will get
complaints about you.

And first his site gets blacklisted, then next is yours. As an admin if
some site won't take action, they are just locked out completely legit or
not. Maybe even with a return message so your users learn you are a poor
admin, with recommendations of other ISPs to go to.

I'm not the only one who will play hardball against a spammer and any site
that permits them to remain on their system.

>direct mail, but he already told me he'll do it though me, or another
>ISP, and I'd like to get what I can out of him before he wakes up and

So let him go. It is NOT worth it.

He will wake up only after:
1. You spool is jammed with complaints.
2. Your reputation wouldn't get you a sack of dung.
3. Your site has been blacklisted.

A few bucks from him is not worth it. Once you lose your reputaion online,
it is hell to redeem yourself.
