What the hell is a "digital" modem.. All standard modems are 1/2 digital, 1/2 analog..
Digital to the machine, Analog to the phone network.

USR is overpriced - rockwell chips are GREAT, its the crap that is put around them (the
isolation transformer and the surge supression especially) is the problem. A good
high-end Rockwell-based External 28.8k is about $150/each, and work as well as a USR of
$225.

Plus USR has a little problem with reliability, the newish models seem to fry a lot.
