I am new to the portmaster world so please excuse me if this sounds a =
little too basic. We are using just a Port Master Office router with =
only one serial port using an external ISDN modem (no PCMCIA). I am =
currently trying to configure the PM through PMConsole. I am having a =
terrible time BTW, it constantly is locking up. But that's another =
issue I'll worry about later.
I am having trouble getting the modem to dial out. I've setup a dial =
script that includes initializing the modem with a modem string by =
sending the appropriate string. I then have the script send the command =
to dial up our ISP, by sending an ATDT command string followred by a =
phone number.
The script is very similar to the example provided in the documentation. =
I've checked all of this out by going into the DIALER, selecting "Watch =
Dialer". It sends the initialization string just fine as I can see the =
modem flash briefly when it sends this string. But when the command to =
dial is sent "ATDTxxxyyyy", nothing happens with the modem after that =
point. The script just sits there as well as the modem -- doing =
absolutely nothing. I verified the commands in this script manually by =
hooking up the modem to a workstation (no PM router involved) and =
sending the commands through a terminal program and everything works =
just fine that way.
I'm relatively sure that I've configured something wrong, but what. I =
am stumped as to where to go from here.
BTW, here is a response I got from livingston.
>>What modem make/model are you using along with the init string, modem =
table entry and port config?=20
I am using a Motorola BitSurfer.
I didn't realize I had to add a modem table entry for an external modem. =
Is this true?
>>Can you do an 'attach SX' and 'talk' to the modem there and get an =
'OK' back from the modem?
How can I do this if the modem uses the same serial port as you use to =
manually configure the PM.
If anyone can provide any help or point me in the right direction, I =
would appreciate it immensely.
Thank you very much,
