I spoke to USR on this and they have come out with what they call a
"Supervisor's Chip" They claim to have designed these EPROMS with the
Portmaster in mind. Claim also that it will resolve the sporadic hang-up
problem as well as the modem reset problem.

Here is how you can get the new EPROMS:

1. Look at your modem cards first to see if the EPROMS are in sockets or
are soldiered onto the card. If socketed you can get the EPROMS sent to
you. If soldiered you must send modems to USR.

2. Record each serial number of the modems

3. Record the EPROM date of each modem. To get this date issue the ati7
command to each modem.

4. Fax the serial numbers, EPROM dates and a description of your request
to attn of USR Customer Support Department for processing of your order.
The order will be fulfilled at no charge the say. I am still waiting for
mine but I only sent my fax about 5 days ago. The fax number is (847)
676-7314

USR says that this EPROM is very new. First available about three weeks
ago. All of the information outlined here was given to me by a Level 2
technician at USR, any inaccuracies
should be brought to the attention of USR
