USR I-modem with 5BRI?

I have a USR I-modem that I'm trying to dial in to a 5BRI module. The
modem configures fine under win95, then I dial to my 5BRI module, and all
I get is garbage, about 6 character burps that just come about 1x/second.

I've tried sync/async PPP conversion, and V.120, and nothing seems to
work.

Any ideas?
