I was just wondering if anyone knows of a product like this or would
have use for it if I was to develop it. Anyone who pays attention to
their logfiles (ftp for instance) knows that the netcom pseudo-slip
that they send to you when you subscribe has RFC1413 (identification)
built in. When an authorization request comes in, it returns their
login name. What I was thinking, was to write a program that would do
something similiar for people using portmasters (And concievably other
terminal servers.) This program would be run with your firewall
software, that all requests to port 113 for the subnet would go to it
instead. (Your typical proxy server.) It would then query the
portmaster to see who is using that IP address, and return the
information. Obviously this is only useful for winblowz machines
using dynamic IP allocation, and not for dedicated connections...
Regardless however, what is the general consensus on such a program?
