Using any OS, using any modem (including couriers), using 3.1.4 (although
it sounds like it happens in all versions), using PM2E's, Livingston
radius, and trying to connect PPP my users have a hell of time
connecting. One person claimed it took 39 tries one day, although they
had been able to log in fine for days prior to and after the bad day.
The average number of attempts has been between 7 and 15. These same
people could use other service providers that were not using Livingston
equipment with no problems.
The new discovery...
If the users were using Win95 and could not get in, they could use
hyperterminal to login to the shell. No big deal. BUT, if after logging
out of the shell they tried to login in PPP they succeeded EVERYtime.
Why? This is universal. I have tested it myself and with over 60 of my
customers, and every single time using hyperterminal before trying PPP
will permit a successful PPP login.
What does hyperterminal do to the modem?
There were no special settings for the modem setup.
Thanks.
