Protocol error

Our customers are getting a strange error every once in awhile: "Dail up
networking could not negotiate a compatible set of network protocols you
specified in the server" while dialing in.

It seems like most everyone can connect about 90% of the time with no
problems. I'm not sure what this message means. At first, I was thinking
that some of the people just had a bad phone connection. But, this is
happening much to often. What do you all think it could be?
