Once upon a time Owen Graupman shaped the electrons to say...
>I would like to create a pair of applications for my web site, the first being
>a threaded discussion list. Is there any way to store message information when
>you only have access to your regular web directory? I've seen several
>discussion applets of one form or another, but they've all required some
>extension or script on the server side.

You will need CGI access to do this. Storing files on the server means
the server must have the ability to write to the local file system. The
only provision for this is CGI (or things like Netscape LiveWire server and
server side JavaScript - which is like CGI in many ways).
