Once upon a time Howard Leadmon shaped the electrons to say...

Well, I'l give it a shot. I had a bit of an advantage in that I used to
work at Xylo, and so did Gryphon, and we both still have friends there.
Since I used to work there I take more interest in their developments than
Ascend.

I can see that, comparing an Ascend MAX to a PM-2 is apples and oranges
really. The most overlap comes in if you are talking about pure ISDN and
comparing the PM-2ei with a MAX using BRI cards. But we don't do digital
modems on BRI at this time, etc...

A PM-3 is much more comparable to a MAX.

I'm sure the folks in marketing are creating competitive comparisons, I'll
see what I can do based on public info.

We don't have plans for it now. Xylogics does it because it was invented
by Gary Malkin - who works there. We haven't had much demand for it, nothing
compared to the demand for OSPF or BGP(4). People have been asking for
VLSM mostly, and the OSPF release allows for that too. If demand is there
we may do it, engineering has commented that it wouldn't be very hard to
do. But we don't add protocols just because we can, that is how code starts
to bloat.
