Once upon a time Mury Johnson shaped the electrons to say...
>1) Why doesn't Cisco, USR, and Asend use them too, or do they? As far as
>I've heard they don't.

USR does make modems with DSPs. Ascend used to use analog modems but they
have the older 8 Digital cards, now replaced with new 12 Digital cards.

I don't think Cisco has them yet. Xylogics bought Penril, makers of DSPs -
any wagers on whether or not the RA6300 gets Digital Modems in a future
revision? ;-) For that matter, wagers on Cisco using them?

>2) Are there other digital modems?

Yes.

>3) Are there any drawbacks doing things the new Livingston way? Do you
>lose anything with the digital modems that you wouldn't with analog modems?

Frankly I really don't know of any drawbacks, just a number of benefits -
which is why all the major manufacturers are moving to DSPs.
