Can you tell USR Sportster EPROM date from serial # on the box?

I need to purchase more USR Sportster modems What I don't want to have to
do is wait for USR to send me the latest supervisory chip should the one I
buy not be the latest, or at least an acceptable one. Worse yet, I don't
want to be stuck with soldiered chips of an older revision and have to send
all of the modems to USR.

My question is:

Can you determine from the packaging, either on the serial number sticker
or elsewhere, any or all of the following:

1. EPROM revision date.
2. Whether or not the cards have soldiered chips or have sockets for them.
