Microcom HDMS Modems vs MP16

We are a beginning ISP and are about to purchase the modem rack. We were
going to go with Sportsters until we heard what y'all had to say about.
Thanks for the warning.

Based on the feedback from this conference, one should buy USR MP16s or
a stack of Couriers. Our salesman at Capella tells us that USR is three
times the price of the Microcom isporte rack that is due out next week.
The Microcom isporte (follow on from the HDMS series) is being priced
at $1,745 for the first 4 modems plus $947 for each 4 modem card thereafter.

1. Have the Microcom HDMS modems been working flawlessly in the field?

2. Is this good pricing on the Microcom rack?

3. Is USR really 3 times the price of the Microcom solution?

Our feeling was to buy the Microcom but given all the misfortune that
people have had with modems at Livingston based ISPs, we're unsure.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Ger Thrond
