The POINT IS that they are NOT making money from it. Merit and the
others are taking the base RADIUS FREE - FREEE - FREEEE - FREEEEE
from Livingston and then "adding a few lines" and SELLING IT
THEMSELVES!

Trying to develop proprietary...?? Who can predict what will become
an industry standard? Livingston tries to add useful (FREEEEE)
software to _their_ equipment and this is what happens. As a
businessman you should be able to understand this better than anyone.
Would you spend money paying programmers to write browsers, chat
software, etc... for your customers to use with _your_ service and
then be happy when other individuals _copied_ the exact code and just
added some additional features to it, then they SOLD what you gave
away to paying customers. I am sure you would expect some sort of
licensing fees to be sent back your way. After all, those other
companies did not spend the money you did getting the base code
written.
