Invalid PIO on port S2

Hi, just lately a PM2eR at a POP has started hanging up on a lot / most
login attempts. It goes like so:

--
CONNECT

login: Plithium password:

NO CARRIER

--

In /var/log/messages all I see is a message saying "Port S# disconnected user Plithium" as if I was logging off normally. The same thing happens when logging into a shell account.

I'm running Livingston Radius 1.16 on a FreeBSD box + some minor patches to start PPP when there is a P in front of the login.

So when I telnet to the portmaster and type debug 0x51 ; set console and try to login to a dialup again I get the error:

"Invalid PIO on Port S2"

Anyone know what this means? Or a way to better understand what is going on?

TIA.
