=46WIW, here's what I've found with the following:
Ascend P75: Router, 2 POTS:
Requires static IP allocation. 1 or 2B connects work great.
Bandwidth on demand doesn't work into a PM. Total "link up"
time: ~2 sec. For those that want the very best!
BSPro External, 2 POTS: =20
Has had "reset" problems w/2B connects into the PM. The
latest firmware, Rev J, seems to work fine. With a fast serial card
in the user's PC, it does 230K bps DTE just fine; >15000 B/s.
Cardinal IDC100i: Internal, no POTS, .=20
Works w/Win95 out of the box on one B. 2B currently requires=20
the client to use Chameleon TCP/IP stack & dialer.
At ~$180, a good choice for data only Win95 clients.
Diamond/Supra NetCommander: Internal 1 POTS.
Works fine into PM on 1 or 2B. Its driver supports a kind of
bandwith on demand that works most of the time into the PM.
At ~$260, a good general purpose Win95 client.
Zyxel Elite 2864ui: External, 1 POTS, built-in pots modem/fax/voice.
Works fine into a PM with 1 or 2B. Its firmware supports a form
of bandwidth on demand that works great into the PM. Has
a parallel port that can directly print faxes or be used as a DTE
interface. Serial DTE up to 460K if the PC has a highspeed card.
At ~$550, a excellent choice for an analog/digital combo or
where bandwith on demand is requited.
BTW, for using external TAs at >115K, I've had excellent luck
with the TC200-S6 16650 based ISA card from www.byterunner.com.
At $29 for 1 port ($42 for 2), it seems an excellent value to me.
In particular, I like the fact that it has a jumper that can be used
to "multiply" the bps that any SW sets by 1, 2 or 4X. This allows
me to use it at >115K *without* having to load any extra drivers
in Win95 or bare DOS.
Hope this helps,
Bill
