My sportsters are the ones giving me the ring thru. I just grabbed
someones script to reset idle modems, hacked it up to suit my needs and
run it from a cron job every 5 minutes. (yes I know it will blow my NVRAM
eventually...). All my init strings are in the PM so every reset
re-writes the config. However, my init string in the pm is set up to
initialize, write to nvram, go off hook, go on hook, soft reset(atz), and
sync speed (at). in that order. Although unorthodox it solved my problem.
note, I also reset modems stuck in initialize because my init string
sometimes picks up when someone is calling in and hangs. So I end up
running it twice back to back on each portmaster.
