Any ISP not running their systems on UPS's is certifiably insane. Of
course, if power goes out long enough, even a UPS won't save you.
UPS's do give excellent brownout protection...and around here, most power
outages last seconds or less. In a year and a half of running an ISP,
we've had one "long" outage, and it only lasted about 7 minutes. Just
long enough to make me start worrying about how long the UPS's would hold.
