I know that. I use a linux box *regularly* that has a 2.x build on it.
Red Hat.

And 'stable' is extremely relative. It's needed an upgrade quite regularly
since they first went to 2.0.x - compared to 1.2.13 it is in the midst of an
earthquake.

That's the regular procedure. Immediately after a 'stable' kernel is
revved, they start on the next development level. They've been leap frogging
like that at least since 1.0.x and 1.1.x.

When ELF is so much better, and the way things are moving, I fail to
understand why people still use a.out...
