Livingston Announces Support For Lucent=92s 56 Kbps Modem Technology

Extends Company=92s Leadership Position in Remote Access Marketplace

Pleasanton, CA, December 2, 1996 =96 Livingston Enterprises, Inc. and Lucent=
Technologies=92 Microelectronics Group have announced their intention to=
enter into a joint technology agreement which enables Livingston to=
integrate Lucent=92s 56 Kbps modem technology into its PortMaster=99 3 line=
of access servers.=20

With the announcement, Livingston extends its leadership position in=
providing DSP-based dial-up remote access by supplying a central site modem=
solution supporting Lucent=92s V.flex=AE2 56 Kbps modem technology.=
Livingston=92s PortMaster 3 and True Digital=99 DSP modems are currently=
shipping to major Internet Service Providers (ISPs) worldwide. The upgrade,=
when available, will allow ISPs to leverage their existing investment in=
Livingston hardware, and provide data transmission speed of up to 56 Kbps.

"Livingston is a leader in providing dial-up Internet access ports,"=
explains Bob Rango, general manager of multimedia integrated circuits for=
Lucent=92s Microelectronics Group. "ISPs worldwide having the Livingston=
PortMaster platform will be capable of modem speeds nearly twice as fast as=
currently available."

On November 15, Lucent and Rockwell Semiconductor Systems announced their=
intention to make Lucent=92s V.flex2 and Rockwell=92s K56Plus=99=
interoperate. The joint Livingston and Lucent technology agreement will=
provide Livingston with interoperability for both V.flex2 and K56Plus.=20

"One key reason for Livingston=92s success in the remote access marketplace=
is our commitment to standards," observes Joe Sasek, vice president of=
sales and marketing at Livingston Enterprises. " Because the True Digital=
modem architecture employs flash memory without pitfalls of analog-based=
modems, support for the eventual ITU 56 K modem standard is assured to be a=
simple upgrade."

Livingston Enterprises, Inc., founded in 1986, specializes in dial-up access=
and LAN-to-LAN interconnectivity. Best known for its Internet connectivity=
products, Livingston supplies its PortMaster Communications Server and a=
full suite of wide area network and firewall routers to more than 1,700=
Internet Service Providers worldwide. Livingston products come with free=
software updates and lifetime technical support. The privately-held company=
is located in Pleasanton, Calif. Livingston=92s web site is=
www.livingston.com.

Lucent Technologies designs, builds and delivers a wide range of public and=
private networks, communications systems and software, consumer and=
business telephone systems and microelectronics components. Bell=
Laboratories is the research and development arm for Lucent. Lucent was=
formed as a result of AT&T's restructuring and became a fully independent=
company--separate from AT&T--on Sept. 30, 1996.

Lucent's Microelectronics Group designs and manufactures integrated=
circuits, optoelectronic components and power systems for the=
communications industries. The groups web site is www.micro.lucent.com.
