Livingston Announces Support For Lucent's 56 Kbps Modem Technology

Extends Company's Leadership Position in Remote Access Marketplace

PLEASANTON, Calif., December 2, 1996 -- Livingston Enterprises, Inc. and
Lucent Technologies' Microelectronics Group have announced their intention
to enter into a joint technology agreement which enables Livingston to
integrate Lucent's 56 Kbps modem technology into its PortMasterTM 3 line of
access servers.

With the announcement, Livingston extends its leadership position in
providing DSP-based dial-up remote access by supplying a central site modem
solution supporting Lucent's V.flex®2 56 Kbps modem technology. Livingston's
PortMaster 3 and True DigitalTM DSP modems are currently shipping to major
Internet Service Providers (ISPs) worldwide. The upgrade, when available,
will allow ISPs to leverage their existing investment in Livingston
hardware, and provide data transmission speed of up to 56 Kbps.

"Livingston is a leader in providing dial-up Internet access ports,"
explains Bob Rango, general manager of multimedia integrated circuits for
Lucent's Microelectronics Group. "ISPs worldwide having the Livingston
PortMaster platform will be capable of modem speeds nearly twice as fast as
currently available."

On November 15, Lucent and Rockwell Semiconductor Systems announced their
intention to make Lucent's V.flex2 and Rockwell's K56PlusTM interoperate.
The joint Livingston and Lucent technology agreement will provide Livingston
with interoperability for both V.flex2 and K56Plus.

"One key reason for Livingston's success in the remote access marketplace is
our commitment to standards," observes Joe Sasek, vice president of sales
and marketing at Livingston Enterprises. " Because the True Digital modem
architecture employs flash memory, without pitfalls of analog-based modems,
support for the eventual ITU 56K modem standard is assured to be a simple
upgrade."

Livingston Enterprises, Inc., founded in 1986, specializes in dial-up access
and LAN-to-LAN interconnectivity. Best known for its Internet connectivity
products, Livingston supplies its PortMaster Communications Server and a
full suite of wide area network and firewall routers to more than 1,700

software updates and lifetime technical support. The privately-held company
is located in Pleasanton, Calif. Livingston's web site is
