Annotation Question

Listed in RFC1918 are those addresses set aside to use for internal
networks, etc...

10.0.0.0 - 10.255.255.255 (10/8 prefix)
172.16.0.0 - 172.31.255.255 (172.16/12 prefix)
192.168.0.0 - 192.168.255.255 (192.168/16 prefix)

My question pertains to the subnetting. What subnetting do the "/8",
"/12" and "/16" annotations indicate with respect to the MASKING? I
understand subnetting and what each Mask provides as to # of subnets and #
of assignable hosts, so I guess I'm looking for a "/##" to
"255.#.#.#" table of some sort...

Any help is appreciated....
