we're having following routing problem with an OR-LS. We're an ISP,
that has a service LAN with address 200.0.208.0 mask 255.255.255.0.
Our office router has an Ethernet address 200.0.208.98, a Wan address
200.0.181.18 (mask 255.255.255.252), and is connected to another
OR-LS at a customer site which has 200.0.181.17 (255.255.255.252) as
Wan address and 200.0.213.49 (mask 255.255.255.240) as local ethernet
address.
Needless to say, the customer's LAN address range is 200.0.213.49 to
62.
We configured an entry for the netmask table saying that the 200.0.213.48
network has a network mask of 255.255.255.240 on both office routers,
but the OR at our LAN is unable to route: it rejects packets destined
to the customer's network back to the default gateway (which is a
Cisco with an upstream international connection), the default gateway
gives the packets back to the OR, and so the TTL's expire.
On the other hand, I found on an application note (URL is
http://www.livingston.com/Tech/Appnotes/app.subnet-table.shtml) the
following remark: "Livingston products can route the first and
last subnet". Does it mean that I can't use the 200.0.213.48 subnet
as a destination subnet on the customer side, and I should only
use 200.0.213.0 or 200.0.213.240 ?
Please answer urgently, as we're the first ISP in Argentina
deploying Livingston routers and access servers in this market.
Thanks in advance,
