Yeah, MZ does tends to...nevermind, he means well.
As far as 4 PRIs versus 2 PRI goes, I think you have to look at the
performance gain. getting twice as many PRIs is only good if the
performance doesn't degrade.
Go read Data Communications for October 1996. I think they have an
article on the MAX performance.

Might be a mistake here. Ascend lists the max at 3" by 17" by 12". The
PM3 is 3.5" by 16.8" by 12".
Interesting note is that Ascend lists the power dissipation at 200
Watts. The PM3 is 30Watts plus 8Watts for the 8 modem card or 10 Watts
per 10 modem card.

The street price for what kind of MAX 4004. I seem to recall that Ascend
charges extra for software to do various things. Does include teh modem
cards?
I'd also like to know if that is their regular list or their ISP list prices.
PM-3A-2T list $9,950, US and Canada ISP $5,473.
2 PRIs gives 46 ISDN (23 + D) at ISP prices is $118 per ISDN B channel
3 10 modem cards at $4,500 list, $2,365 ISP and
2 8 modem cards at $3,450 list, $1,898 ISP is
46 modems at 10,891 ISP or $236.76 per modem
This gives a total price of $16,364 ISP for 46 ports, or $355.74 per PORT.
Each port capable of ISDN or POTS modem in any order.

Yes, there are pors and cons to number of chassis and number of T1s being
used. I'm not really clear on them enough to make any comment.

True, but an invalid comparision.
With 2 PRI/T1s both the Max and the PM3 can service all the channels.
For 4 PRI/T1s the comparison has to be either 2 MAXs with 2 PRIs each or
a MAX with 4 PRIs againist 2 PM3s with 2 PRIs each. In the first case
there is no difference, expect you have 2 MAXs instead of one. In the
second case the MAX can handle 20 less modem calls.

Whose sales staff did you talk to and when? 6 slots with 10 modem cards
is 60 modems.

MAX 4002 $6710 PM-3A-2T 5472.52
8 modem $3660 8 modem $1897
12 modem $4062.50 10 modem $2365.00
Looks pretty clear to me.
