Many people can't even get PRI yet, so they will probably be around for
quite a while. They are also great for smaller sites with only 10-20 modems
and 5 BRI lines.

That would require a DSP chip and the "True Digital" modem technology in
the PM2/e/eR those cards are now only available for the PM3 and I would
imagine that unless they redesign the 5BRI board to add a few DSPs and call
it a 5BRI+ (RFE? :) that it won't happen.

I think that will probably be supported only on the PM3 since they have an
expansion slot for a compression (or maybe encryption too! RFE? ,) but I
don't really know Livingston's plans they will probably have an official
response on Monday.
