One easy thing to avoid this is to either script the change, or use
(pmcommand or pmcom). Then you get all of the editing commands that
the shell you happen to use supports; you can easily repeat commands,
you can even use your favorite text editor to make edits to it.
I'm not diagreeing about the command history buffer, though (I submitted
an RFE for it over a year ago), but it is possible to work around the
limitations. :)
