Yes, If you are going to grow from here (and if you are an ISP, its grow
or die) then they should provide you with a Network Interface Device (NID)
sometimes called a Customer Network Interface. Essentially its a block
with several RJ45 Jacks, one for each PRI/T1. Even if you only have one
or two PRI/T1 lines now, they probably could put in a 10 jack NID now. And
if they are a class act there should also be a smart jack in each line.
The smartjack is a card (T1 facility loopback unit) that is used to
provide electrical isolation in case of a fault and the ability to
loopback the signal at the telephone demarc point as well as your CSU or
PM-3. If you have several circuits, preferably this is in your location
and not some cabinet/hut elsewhere. What if one of the circuits died or
the telephone company wanted you to disconnect a single PRI so that they
could test it? As it stands now, you would have to have another temporary
cable so that when you pulled out the "Y" cable you could put in the
other. Actually two temporary cables since the pinouts on the RJ48C would
have to be different depending on the PRI in test. Otherwise they take
ALL your lines down. Put it to them this way, they are making a small
investment that will be returned as you grow and will save time etc. in
troubleshooting later. As to crosstalk over the PRI lines, I'm not
qualified to answer that, but someone on the list surely is.
