Once upon a time Dave shaped the electrons to say...
>How do the portmaster 2 and 3's stack up against computones 64 port
>offerings (and their new isdn cards)?

Compared to the PM-3 - No contest. Computone doesn't even offer a product in
the same class as the PM-3.

You really have to compare their PowerRack to the PM-2 family.

They have "921.6K" ports. My reply is - so what? How many people really
need ports that go that high? And I have never seen data from them about
how the box deals with a high port load with that kind of throughput.

You can't software upgrade their products. You need to get a new PROM and
HW upgrade, or start tftp booting to use a new release. Not very nice
if you have POPs.

It looks like they only go up to 4Megs of RAM, PMs go to 16 at the moment.

I understand their packet filtering isn't as complete as ours, but that's
second hand from a user.

They currently do RIPv1. When I asked them about RIPv2, OSPF, and BGP(4) at
a tradeshow a couple months back they said they didn't have any plans to
support them. OSPF is hanging like the sword of Damocles and will release
any day now (please don't flame me, I'd like to see it out as much as you).
And we're already working on RIPv2 and BGP(4).

They don't seem to have 10baseT ports - I know a lot of ISPs are TP networks.
You'd need a tranceiver.

Livingston owner's are entitled to use RADIUS 2.0. Those who don't use
Livingston HW are not. Do they even have their own RADIUS are are the
dependant on others?

Their BRI product seems to be half-density compared to their analog ports.
It seems they have a 4 BRI card (8 B channels) that goes in place of the
16 RJ45 async cards.

A number of people on this list have tried them. A couple seem to like them,
but the majority have sent them back. A number of them had some rather
harsh words about them. You might look in the archives.
