I have an interesting question. I am not sure it is a problem, but would
like to know if anybody else has seen this.
We have an ethernet segment with 2 pormaster 2e (total 50 ports) and 2
BSDI servers. The collision light on our ethernet hub is on
SOLID. However, via SH NETSTAT, I see that the collision rate is less than 1%.
If I unplug one of the portmasters (pm1, regaurdless of traffic levels on
pm1), the collision light goes out.
Based on experience from our 500+ node corporate network, this is not
normal. The collisions are less than 1%, but the portmaster seems to
effect the ethernet segment such that the hubs and other NICs think they
see collisions.
Any ideas? Is the NIC in the portmaster half broken?! The portmaster has
been up for over 120 days, but doesn't seem to get any worse or better (I
know, I should probably reboot this, but it's working fine).
Sincerely,
Kevin Madsen
