Most everyone I know who is using Sportster modems has similiar problems.
Sometimes the Sportsters will overheat, and not answer.
The solution?
Dump the Sportsters and buy Couriers or MP/16s from USR. I personally use
Couriers and MP/16s, and they work great. I've never reset a modem, or
had a modem that didn't answer because of the modem itself. A few other
ISPs I know use USR MP/16s with the same reliability.
