Are you sure? I have several dozen modems wired with Cat-2 flat satin 8
cond wire. Cyclades includes this type of wiring with their multiport
hardware...so I'd hope they did some testing and found it to not be a
problem. Also, I talked to some people about it, and the consensus was
that due to the nature of RS-232 signalling, there would be little if any
benefit from the twisted pairs in cat-5.

I've used Cat-5 too...but in most cases, the flat wire is much easier to
deal with.
